205 Live Preview (2/26): Road To WM35 Begins With Cruiserweight Tourney

As noted, WWE returns to the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina for tonight’s blue brand television tapings. In addition to SmackDown Live, the latest episode of 205 Live goes down this evening.

WWE.com released the following preview for tonight’s show:

WWE 205 Live preview, Feb. 26, 2019: The Road to WrestleMania begins with Cruiserweight Tournament

Tonight on WWE 205 Live, Tony Nese battles Kalisto, and The Brian Kendrick takes on Drew Gulak in the first two matches of a tournament that will determine who will challenge WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy at WrestleMania.

Tournament of challengers

After WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy defeated Akira Tozawa in a thrilling title bout during the WWE Elimination Chamber Kickoff, WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick announced a tournament to determine Murphy’s next challenger. Said tournament begins tonight with a pair of exciting matchups, and the winner of the tournament will earn the opportunity to challenge the champion on The Grandest Stage of Them All – WrestleMania.

If last year’s tournament that culminated in an epic battle for the then-vacant title between Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali at The Show of Shows is any indication, the competition will be fierce, and every member of the WWE 205 Live roster will be out to prove they can stop The Unstoppable.

Maverick revealed the first two matches would feature Tony Nese against Kalisto, and The Brian Kendrick taking on his ally-turned-enemy, Drew Gulak.

Who will advance in tonight’s contests, and who else has earned the opportunity to compete in the tournament?

Don’t miss WWE 205 Live, tonight at 10/9 C, streaming on the award-winning WWE Network.
