According to multiple sources, Austin Aries made a surprise return at tonight’s Impact Wrestling television taping event in Orlando and was involved in a major, major segment. After a face-to-face collision with Eli Drake, the two competed in a match later in the night and Aries was able to pick up the victory, becoming the new Impact Global Champion.
Aries is something of a “TNA Original” having worked multiple stints for the company throughout all their various transitions over the years, and is considered a triple crown champion. He’s had six runs as X-Division Champion, is a former TNA World Tag Team Champion alongside Bobby Roode, and his win tonight starts his second reign as world champion.
We’ll have complete results from tonight’s Impact Wrestling television taping up later this evening.
Aries signed with WWE in 2016 as a member of the NXT brand where he worked for most of the year until suffering an injury. He was brought up to the main roster as a commentator on Raw for various 205 Live matches and eventually had a run in the Cruiserweight division for several months before being released by the company last July.
